Bash Script to record Skype

18 February 2006

Daniel Andrlik on his Ministry of Intrigue blog has a great post about how to record your skype calls. `HOWTO: Record Skype Conversations In Linux`_ features a great bash script to use Lame and Sox to record Skype conversations.

Why is this useful? Well just one idea that springs to mind, it is half-way towards a workstation-based voicemail/answerphone for Skype users, another is to record interviews for a podcast. I tested it on Gentoo and just did:

emerge -p vsound sox lame

It told me that I had lame already so I just emerged vsound and sox. Other than that I just followed the instructions at Daniel Andrlik's post and Snapper Morgan's origital post, Recording your Skype Calls in Linux.

The script itself is downloaded in a tar archive.

We are a developing team specialized at audio recording, named ourself [redacted] team. We manage several software products. Two of them are [redacted] and [redacted]. I think they are all good tools for Voip/skype recording. And I would like to recommend the tools to you and your readers. Follows the website URLs and introductions:

[redacted]

It is the perfect tool for podcasting, online journalism, conducting business, and much more!

The program is compatible with nearly all VoIP clients, among which [Many Win32 clients] were fully tested and explicitly supported. Other VoIP clients, such as [More Win32 clients], are supported via simple user customization. You can tune up all these IM and VOIP clients with single installation of the software.

[Note, we do not support proprietary Windows-only software here, if you want to donate £10,000 to the FSFE then I might run your advert, otherwise no biscuit]
